The Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria in Perugia opens every day of the week, Monday included, from 8:30 am to 7:30 pm, with a €10 ticket (2026).

## Open every day, Monday included

The gallery opens daily from 8:30 am to 7:30 pm, and the ticket desk closes at 6:30 pm (2026). That hour between last ticket and closing is the one to respect: arrive at 6:40 pm and you're outside.

Monday opening is unusual for an Italian state museum, and it is the most useful thing to know about this one. Across much of the country Monday is the day museums go dark, which is why this gallery is Perugia's plan B for a Monday. The national pattern is at [closed on Mondays](/plan/closed-on-mondays).

## €10, or €12 when there's an exhibition

The full ticket is €10, rising to €12 when an exhibition is on. EU citizens aged 18 to 25 pay €2, under 18s go free, and the first Sunday of the month is free for everyone (2026).

The annual card costs €25. At €10 a visit it pays for itself on the third, which only matters if you live nearby or come back to Perugia every year for [Umbria Jazz or the other events](/towns/perugia/events).

## In the Palazzo dei Priori, on Corso Vannucci

The gallery occupies the Palazzo dei Priori at Corso Vannucci 19, in the historic center.

That address matters for the day's plan, because the other thing everyone comes to see in Perugia is outdoors and costs nothing. The Fontana Maggiore stands in Piazza IV Novembre.

## The Fontana Maggiore: 50 reliefs, 24 statues

The Fontana Maggiore was made between 1278 and 1280 by Nicola and Giovanni Pisano, to a design by fra Bevignate, with the hydraulics by Boninsegna from Venice, to mark the completion of the city's new aqueduct.

Its two concentric basins carry 50 reliefs and 24 statues. The dating here is the Comune di Perugia's; other sources give 1275 to 1278, and the exact years are still argued over.

## Getting up there: the MiniMetro, every 2.5 minutes

The MiniMetro links the Pian di Massiano car park to Pincetto station in the historic center, on a line of 3,020 meters that climbs 160.6 meters, with a maximum gradient of 11.5% and five stops in between.

The 50-seat cars run every two and a half minutes, from 7 am to 9:05 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 8:45 pm on holidays, last departures (2026). It is the practical answer to Perugia's layout: the center sits on a hill and the parking is at the bottom.

The single fare is not published on the page we read, because the fares page returns an error. The city is at [Perugia](/towns/perugia), and what lies under its streets at [the buried quarter](/stories/perugia-buried-a-whole-quarter).
