## Guided only, every 30 minutes

Visits to the nuraghe are guided and there is no way around it. Groups leave every 30 minutes and the visit runs about an hour, in Italian, English or French.

That single rule reshapes the day. You cannot arrive and wander, you cannot linger in the tower after your group moves on, and a late arrival means waiting for the next departure rather than walking straight through the gate.

The compensation is the interior. The central tower and the surrounding village are a maze of low passages, and a guided route is the only way anyone would find the sequence.

## One ticket, three sites

The same ticket covers the nuraghe, the Casa Zapata museum complex and the Centro Giovanni Lilliu. Casa Zapata is built directly over another nuraghe, Su Nuraxi 'e Cresia, which you look down into from a glass floor inside a noble house.

Both museums are guided as well, at about 30 minutes each. Allow half a day for the three, not the hour that the headline site suggests.

## Every day of the year, except when it is not

The three sites are open every day of the year, and the archaeological area can still close for bad weather or for prohibitive heat. Those are the two published reasons, and in July they are not theoretical.

Call ahead in a heatwave. The site is an exposed basalt plateau with no shade over the walkways, and the closure decision is taken locally on the morning.

## Nobody publishes the price online

Nobody publishes a fare or a seasonal timetable in readable form: the foundation that runs the site releases both as downloadable PDF files, which cannot be quoted with confidence. This page therefore carries no price at all.

## Two World Heritage sites in Sardinia, both prehistoric

Sardinia holds 2 of the 62 Italian World Heritage properties in 2026: Su Nuraxi, inscribed in 1997, and the domus de janas, inscribed in July 2025 as the 61st Italian property.

The 2025 listing, Art and architecture of prehistoric Sardinia, covers 17 sites out of the 26 proposed, spread across fourteen municipalities with Alghero leading the nomination. It is the largest body of rock-cut funerary architecture in the western Mediterranean.

Nothing Roman, nothing medieval, nothing baroque. An island with four thousand years of written occupation is on the list twice for what was built before any of it, which is the most useful thing the list says about Sardinia. ## The bronzes are not here

More than 4,000 objects covering close to 7,000 years sit in the national archaeological museum in Cagliari, and the nuragic bronze figurines are among them. Barumini gives you the architecture; Cagliari gives you the people who built it.
