As of September 11, 2026 there is no access fee to enter Venice: the 2026 trial ended on July 26, nothing has applied since July 27, and the 2027 season has not been decided. What you do pay is €9.50 for a 75-minute vaporetto ticket and a tourist tax of €1.00 to €5.00 a night in the historic center.

## The access fee: not in force, 2027 undecided

No access fee applies in Venice as of September 11, 2026. The contributo di accesso charged day visitors to the historic city on 60 non-consecutive days between April 3 and July 26, 2026; the trial is over, and since July 27, 2026 nothing is charged.

Bringing it back in 2027 is up to the city administration, and no calendar exists. Overnight guests were never the target. Last checked on September 11, 2026, with the background at [the access fee is not in force](/stories/venice-access-fee-is-not-in-force) and the rules as they stood at [the Venice access fee](/plan/venice-access-fee).

## Vaporetto: €9.50 a ride, passes from €25

A 75-minute ACTV ticket on the rete unica, which covers water buses, buses, the tram and the People Mover, costs €9.50 (2026). On board you can buy only by card, never with cash, and the ticket is not valid on lines 16 and 19, the Casinò line or Alilaguna boats.

Time passes run from first validation, not midnight: €25 for 24 hours (the Venezia Daily Pass, which also covers Trenitalia regional trains inside the comune), €35 for 48, €45 for 72 and €65 for 7 days. Ages 6 to 29 can buy a 72-hour pass for €27 with a €6 Rolling Venice card.

## From Marco Polo: bus or boat

The Aerobus from Marco Polo costs €10 one way or €18 return on lines 5, 15 and 45, because ordinary ACTV tickets don't cover the airport. A combined Aerobus plus 90 minutes on the rete unica is €18, and pass holders can add the airport for €7 one way or €13 return, but only when buying the pass (2026).

The Alilaguna boat costs €18 one way and €32 return to Venice, and €10 and €18 to Murano, with one large bag and one carry-on included; each extra bag is €4, and children under 6 ride free. Door to door, the options are at [getting to Venice](/towns/venezia/getting-there).

## Tourist tax: €1.00 to €5.00, five nights at most

In the historic center, from February 1 to December 31, the tax runs from €1.00 a person a night in 1-star hotels to €5.00 in 5-star hotels, with €3.50 for 3 star and €4.50 for 4 star, for at most 5 consecutive nights (rates since April 1, 2025).

January rates are 30% lower. The Lido and the lagoon islands, Murano and Burano included, pay 20% less, and the mainland 30% less. Where to base yourself is at [where to stay in Venice](/towns/venezia/where-to-stay). All prices are quoted in euros.

## Groups of 25, no loudspeakers

Guided tour groups in Venice are capped at 25 people, and guides may not use loudspeakers or stop where they block foot traffic, a rule in force since August 2024. School groups on educational visits are exempt, and so is boarding or leaving a boat.

## Big ships and the MOSE

Since August 1, 2021, ships over 25,000 gross tons, with a hull over 180 m or an air draft over 35 m, may not transit the Bacino di San Marco, the Canale di San Marco or the Giudecca canal.

The MOSE barriers have 78 mobile gates in 4 barriers across the 3 lagoon inlets, Lido, Malamocco and Chioggia, and are designed for tides of up to 3 meters (10 feet). How often the gates have been raised is at [the MOSE story](/stories/78-gates-and-100-liftings).

## Weather: 38.7°F in January, 75.9°F in July

Venice averages 38.7°F (3.7°C) in January and 75.9°F (24.4°C) in July, on the 1991-2020 normals from the Tessera airport station, with July highs of 84.2°F (29.0°C). Month by month: [weather in Venice](/plan/weather-in-venice).

Winter is Carnival season, and its moving date is at [Venice Carnival](/events/carnevale-di-venezia).
