## What each count actually counts

The 62 UNESCO properties are inscriptions, not sites on the ground: a serial property listed across several regions counts once, which is why a map of components would show more pins than the official total. The 24 national parks are those with a working management body, the same set the environment ministry georeferences.

Blue Flags in 2026 went to 257 coastal comuni, covering 525 beaches and 87 marinas, in the fortieth edition of the programme. The award attaches to the comune, so a Blue Flag town can have both awarded and unawarded stretches of shore.

## The airport layer has two totals

Italian airports handled 230,080,945 passengers in 2025 according to the operators' figures collected by Assaeroporti, up 5.0% on 2024, while ENAC counts 229,740,554 for the same year on a slightly different perimeter. Both numbers are official and both are on the page, because picking one would hide the difference in method.

The layer marks where the traffic actually lands, which is not where most itineraries assume it does.

## The ZTL map is separate
