Colosseum tickets go on sale online 30 days before the date of the visit, they carry your name and they lock a fixed entry slot (2026).

## The 30-day window, and the hour nobody publishes

Sales open 30 days ahead. The hour of day the batch appears is not stated on the official pages we read, so this page prints no time, and any site that promises you one is guessing too.

What you can control is the clock you use. Rome runs on UTC+1 in winter and UTC+2 in summer, and the [switch dates](/plan/time-zone-and-daylight-saving) are not the same as the American ones, so the gap between your kitchen clock and the release moves twice a year.

School groups follow a different calendar, with monthly or weekly sales instead of the 30-day rule.

## What 18.00 euro buys, and for how long

The full ticket costs 18.00 euro, the reduced ticket for EU citizens aged 18 to 25 costs 2.00 euro, and with the Roma Pass the entry costs 11.50 euro (2026). It is valid 24 hours.

Inside that ticket: the first level of the amphitheater, the second level with the panoramic terraces, the Colosseum Museum, the Roman Forum and the Palatine. Inside the amphitheater the stay is capped at 75 minutes.

The Forum and Palatine are the part people underestimate. They are large, they have no shade worth the name, and 24 hours of validity means you can split them across two half days.

## Opening times, and the winter cut

The Colosseum opens at 8:30 am (08:30 on Italian signs) and the Forum and Palatine at 9:00 am. From October 25, 2026 to February 28, 2027 the last entry is 3:30 pm and closing is 4:30 pm; from October 1 to 24, 2026 the last entry is 5:30 pm with closing at 6:30 pm.

The site closes on December 25 and January 1. The summer closing time was ambiguous on the page we read, so it is not published here: check colosseo.it for a visit between the end of March and the end of September.

## Free days: the 4 dates on the calendar

Entry is free on the first Sunday of every month and on April 25, June 2 and November 4. Those are the 4 fixed free dates plus the monthly one.

Free does not mean easy. The official page does not say whether the timed slot still applies on a free day, and we are not going to assume it either way.

## The 3 prices we can verify, and the ones we cannot

The 3 verified prices are 18.00, 2.00 and 11.50 euro. The park also sells higher-priced routes under the Full Experience label, with the arena floor and the Domus Aurea, and those prices are not confirmed on a primary source, so this page does not quote them.

The two sources behind everything above are pages of the same body, the Parco archeologico del Colosseo, so this is one voice speaking twice rather than two independent confirmations. It is the operator's own voice, which is the right one for a price, and it is still worth knowing.

## FAQ

### How far in advance do Colosseum tickets go on sale?

30 days before the date of the visit, on the park's own site. The ticket carries your name and a fixed entry slot, so it cannot be transferred to a friend or moved to another hour once bought.

### What time of day do the tickets get released?

The official pages we checked do not state the hour, so this page will not invent one. Work in Italian time either way: sales open 30 days before your visit date, on Rome clocks, which run UTC+1 in winter and UTC+2 in summer.

### How long can you stay inside the Colosseum?

75 minutes inside the amphitheater itself with the ordinary ticket, which is valid 24 hours overall. That 24-hour window covers the Roman Forum and the Palatine, where no time limit of that kind applies.

### Are the Roman Forum and Palatine included in the Colosseum ticket?

Yes. The 18.00 euro ticket covers the first level of the amphitheater, the second level with its terraces, the Colosseum Museum, the Roman Forum and the Palatine, and it stays valid 24 hours from first entry.

### Is the Colosseum free on the first Sunday of the month?

Yes, and also on April 25, June 2 and November 4. Free admission is the busiest scenario of the month, and the official page does not say whether a slot is still required on those days, so check colosseo.it before you travel for one.
