# 21 regions, and the busiest is not the one with Rome

> Veneto took 73,472,377 overnight stays in 2024 and Lazio 51,753,567. Every region page opens with its own share, not with its reputation.

Veneto, not Lazio, is the Italian region with the most overnight stays: 73,472,377 in 2024 against 51,753,567, out of a national total of 466,158,045.

## The ranking that circulates is wrong

Veneto is first with 15.76% of Italy's nights, and the widely repeated claim that Rome's region leads does not match the ISTAT figures. Each page below opens with the share of the national total that region actually took, so a comparison between two regions becomes a subtraction rather than an impression. The order on this page follows that share, which is why it does not look like the order a search engine returns.

## What a region page contains

Two regions have no inscribed UNESCO property at all, Molise and Valle d'Aosta, and their pages say so in the first line instead of listing minor sites to fill the space. Every region page carries the same skeleton: the share of nights the region took, what is inscribed within it, how you arrive and what it costs, and the things the official sources do not publish. The last of those is usually the most useful, and it is the part other guides leave out.
