Two things in Naples run on rules you cannot improvise: the archaeological museum closes on Tuesdays and costs €20, and the Cappella Sansevero sells out because its booking window opens exactly 60 days ahead.

## The archaeological museum, and the Tuesday rule

The Museo Archeologico Nazionale opens Wednesday to Monday, 9:00 am to 7:30 pm (19:30 on Italian signs), last entry 6:30 pm, and closes all day Tuesday. Full admission is €20, EU citizens aged 18 to 25 pay €2, and Campania Artecard holders €10. Prices in euros.

Free days and categories are wide: under 18s, the first Sunday of the month, March 8 for women, April 25, June 2, November 4, qualified Italian teachers and disabled visitors. If you come often, the annual Open MANN card is €25, or €5 for young visitors. See [the archaeological museum](/attractions/museo-archeologico-napoli).

## Cristo velato: the 60 day window

Booking is compulsory at the Museo Cappella Sansevero, online sales open 60 days before the date of visit, and a further tranche is released two days beforehand. That second tranche is the realistic option for anyone who decided late.

The museum opens every day 9:00 am to 7:00 pm except Tuesday, with last entry at 6:30 pm. Tickets are €12 full, €8 for ages 18 to 26 and FAI members, €6 for ages 10 to 17, €7 for a disabled visitor with companion, free under 10, €4 for schools, and the audio guide is €3.50. Groups of 10 to 30 book up to two days ahead.

## One line covers both excavations

From Porta Nolana and Garibaldi, the EAV L1 Naples to Sorrento line is the only Vesuvian line that serves both Ercolano Scavi and Pompei Scavi-Villa dei Misteri, on the timetable in force since March 28, 2026.

The other Vesuvian lines, L4 to Poggiomarino, L6 to Sarno and L8 to Baiano, do not reach the excavation stops, which is the mistake that costs an hour. EAV publishes a freephone information line, 800 211388. See [getting to Naples](/towns/napoli/getting-there).

## Four gates around the Centro Antico

The old center is a limited traffic zone watched by 4 electronic gates, and they do not share one timetable. Via del Sole is live Monday to Thursday 9:00 am to 10:00 pm and Friday to Sunday and holidays 9:00 am to 2:00 am; via Miroballo, via Duomo and via Santa Sofia are live every day 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (2026).

Access is for residents, businesses inside the zone, deliveries, doctors on home visits, authorized public service vehicles and patients heading to health facilities in the area. Temporary permits are requested by email at permessitemporanei.ztl@comune.napoli.it, which is worth doing before, not after, you drive in.

## The bed tax rose on May 1, 2026

Council decision 89 of March 12, 2026 set the current rates, in force since May 1, 2026: €4.00 per person per night in one star hotels, €4.50 in two star, €5.50 in three star and in non hotel accommodation, and €6.00 in four and five star hotels and in short lets, for a maximum of 14 consecutive nights.

It is due from anyone over 14 who is not resident in Naples. The comparison worth having: from January 1 to April 30, 2026 the same categories paid €3.00 to €5.00, so a week's stay costs a few euros more than a guide printed last winter will tell you. See [where to stay in Naples](/towns/napoli/where-to-stay).

## What is not on this page

We hold verified 2026 hours and prices for exactly 2 museums in Naples, the archaeological museum and the Cappella Sansevero, so those are the only ones quoted here. Capodimonte, the Certosa di San Martino, Napoli Sotterranea and the cathedral with the treasure of San Gennaro are missing not because they are minor but because our data is not good enough to publish yet.

That gap is being worked on. Meanwhile, treat any price you find for them elsewhere as unverified, and check the operator's own site on the day. There is background at the Certosa di San Martino, [Napoli Sotterranea](/attractions/napoli-sotterranea), [the Naples FAQ](/faq/napoli) and [Campania](/regions/campania).
