Miramare castle and park: two closing times

Miramare Castle's museum opens every day from 9 am to 7 pm, but the park around it keeps its own hours: it opens at 8 am and closes as early as 4 pm in winter.

Castle: 9 am to 7 pm, €17 in 2026

The Museo storico del Castello di Miramare opens every day from 9 am to 7 pm. In 2026 the full ticket is €17, including the exhibitions in progress, the reduced ticket is €7, and entry is free under 6 and on the first Sunday of every month.

Special guided visits cost €7 for adults and €5 for ages 11 to 17. The stables open daily from 10 am to 6 pm, last entry 5:30 pm.

The €17 covers the temporary shows running in 2026, so the museum alone may cost less once they close. That price needs checking again at the start of 2027.

Park: opens at 8 am, closes between 4 and 7 pm

The park opens at 8 am every day of the year and closes at a time that moves with the season.

Closing is at 4 pm in January, November and December, 5 pm in February, 6 pm in March, and 7 pm from April to September. October splits in two: 6 pm for the first fortnight, 5 pm from October 15.

Where the two clocks catch people

From November to January the park closes at 4 pm while the castle stays open until 7 pm, a three-hour gap.

In June the two close together and nobody notices. In December, anyone who does the castle first and plans a walk in the grounds afterwards finds the gates shut. The fix in winter is the early start: the park is open an hour before the castle, from 8 am, so the grounds fit before the museum rather than after.

First Sunday: free, and the fullest Sunday

Miramare is free on the first Sunday of every month, the same day the Ministry of Culture's #DomenicalMuseo scheme opens state museums, galleries, parks and gardens without a ticket.

The national scheme covers only state sites: civic, diocesan and private museums are outside it, and each sets its own rule. A free day here means a full castle, so the early park hours matter more than usual.

The national calendar is at free museum days, the city at Trieste, and the other half-day out on the Karst at Grotta Gigante.
