The tourist route through the Frasassi caves covers 1,500¹ meters in 75 minutes at a constant 57°F (14°C), and is always walked with a guide.

1,500 meters, 75 minutes, never alone

The walkway route runs 1,500¹ meters and takes 75 minutes, guided from start to finish. Two separate pages of the operator's site agree on the duration and the temperature, which is more confirmation than most Italian sites offer.

There is no short version and no self-guided ticket. You join a departure, you walk it, you come out.

57°F (14°C), whatever the month

The temperature inside holds at 57°F (14°C) all year, which is the number that decides what you wear.

In February that feels mild. In August, coming off a valley road at 90 degrees Fahrenheit, it is a shock that lasts 75 minutes, and cotton is not enough. Closed shoes, because the walkways carry condensation.

€20, €18, €14

The full ticket is €20, the reduced is €18 and ages 6 to 14 pay €14 (2026). Prices are in euros.

The €18 rate covers ages 15 to 25, over 65s, military personnel, CAI members, journalists and teachers. Free entry covers under-6s, non-self-sufficient visitors with a disability plus their companion, and residents of Genga.

Two caving routes run beyond the walkway: the blue one at €40 for 2 hours and the red one at €50 for 3 hours. Those are guided descents, not extensions of the tourist path.

Booking: only for groups over 20

Reservation is compulsory only for groups of more than 20 people, which makes this one of the few major Italian sites you can still reach without a ticket in hand.

Do check the closures before you drive out, because they are irregular: December 4, December 25 and the whole stretch from January 7 to 30, 2026.

That January block is a full three-week shutdown in the middle of low season, and it catches people who assume winter means quiet rather than closed.

The Abisso Ancona: 180 by 120 by 200 meters

The first chamber, the Abisso Ancona, measures 180³ by 120³ meters with 200¹ meters of height and holds more than 2 million cubic meters of space.

It was reached on September 25, 1971 by the Gruppo Speleologico Marchigiano of CAI Ancona, and opened to the public on September 1, 1974. The often repeated line is that Milan cathedral would stand inside it.

Honesty about the source: the operator's page on the Abisso now returns a 404³, so these dimensions come from a secondary source that cites frasassi.com. They need rechecking against an official page.

Reduced mobility: how far you get

Visitors with reduced mobility can reach the Sala 200¹, and wheelchair users can see the first hall only.
