Duomo di Firenze: only the €30 pass climbs the dome

The Duomo complex in Florence sells no single tickets, only three passes, and only the €30 Brunelleschi Pass includes the climb up the dome, on a time slot you can't change or cancel (2026).

Three passes, no single tickets

The Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore sells three passes and nothing else (2026). The Brunelleschi Pass costs €30 and covers the dome, Giotto's bell tower, the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, the Baptistery and Santa Reparata.

The Giotto Pass costs €20 and covers everything except the dome. The Ghiberti Pass costs €15 and covers the museum, the Baptistery and Santa Reparata.

Ages 7 to 14 pay €12, €7 and €5 respectively, and children under 6 go free.

The Giotto Pass is the one that catches people

The €20 Giotto Pass looks like the complete ticket: it has a climb, the bell tower, and four of the five places. It is €10 cheaper than the Brunelleschi, and it does not go up the dome.

That is how people end up at the foot of the wrong staircase. If the dome is the reason you're in the square, the only pass that opens it is the €30 one, and the pass alone is not enough without the slot.

The dome: one slot, no changes, no refunds

The dome climb needs a time slot booked in advance that can be neither changed nor cancelled (2026). Lose the slot and you lose the ticket.

Last entry is 6:45 pm Monday to Friday and 4:30 pm on Saturday. The official FAQ gives no minimum age for the climb, so the practical limit is whether a child can keep to the booked time and the stairs.

The dome is closed for maintenance from November 16 to 20, 2026, and a pass bought for those dates will not get you up.

Sundays: 12:45 to 4:30 pm only

On Sundays and public holidays the dome opens only from 12:45 to 4:30 pm, a window of under four hours (2026).

Saturday ends early as well. Monday to Friday carry the longest window, with last entry at 6:45 pm, so one of those is the day to book if the dome is the priority.

Baptistery ceiling under restoration in 2026

The Baptistery's ceiling mosaics are under restoration and not visible in 2026, according to the same official page that lists the passes.

The Baptistery is in all three passes, so the loss is shared, but it is worth knowing before you choose a pass for the ceiling.

14.6% of American nights end up in Florence

Florence takes 14.6% of all the nights Americans spend in Italy, second only to Rome at 25.5%.

That demand meets a dome you can only climb on a booked, non-refundable slot. Book the slot first and build the rest of the day around it. The city is at Florence, the common questions at Florence FAQ, and when tickets open at ticket release calendar.

FAQ

Can you buy a single ticket for the Florence Duomo?

No. The complex sells only three passes (2026): Brunelleschi at €30, Giotto at €20 and Ghiberti at €15. Ages 7 to 14 pay €12, €7 and €5, and under 6s go free. Only the Brunelleschi Pass includes the dome.

Do you have to book the Brunelleschi dome?

Yes. The climb needs a time slot booked in advance that can't be changed or cancelled (2026), so missing it means losing the ticket. Last entry is 6:45 pm Monday to Friday and 4:30 pm on Saturdays.

Is the Florence dome open on Sunday?

Only from 12:45 to 4:30 pm on Sundays and public holidays (2026), the shortest window of the week. Saturdays end early too, with last entry at 4:30 pm. The dome is also closed for maintenance from November 16 to 20, 2026.

What does the Giotto Pass include?

Giotto's bell tower, the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, the Baptistery and Santa Reparata, for €20 (2026). It does not include the dome, which is only on the €30 Brunelleschi Pass. The Baptistery's ceiling mosaics are not visible in 2026 because of restoration.
