When Italian museum tickets actually go on sale

Italian release windows run from 30 days at the Colosseum to a quarterly calendar at the Last Supper, with a weekly Wednesday noon drop of around 215² extra tickets for the following week.

The Last Supper: quarterly, plus Wednesday at noon

Tickets for the Cenacolo Vinciano are released 4 times a year, by quarter: in September for November to January, in December for February to April, in March for May to July, in June for August to October. That is the calendar that empties within hours.

The second mechanism is the one that saves trips. Every Wednesday at 12:00 noon, around 215² extra tickets a day for the following week go on sale, online only. For anyone booking under a month out, that Wednesday drop is the realistic route in, and it is a single source claim, so treat the number as the operator's figure rather than as a guarantee.

Noon in Milan, in your own kitchen

12:00 noon Italian time is 6:00 am on the US East Coast and 3:00 am on the West Coast, in the summer half of the year, 11:00 am in London and 8:00 pm in Sydney. Italy runs UTC+1 in winter and UTC+2 in summer.

The trap is not the arithmetic but the calendar. Italy and the United States do not change clocks on the same dates, so for a few weeks each spring and autumn the gap moves by an hour, which the time zone page sets out. Set the alarm from a converter on the day, not from a number you memorized in January.

30 days at the Colosseum, and the ticket has your name on it

Online sales open 30 days before the visit date. The ticket is named and carries a compulsory entry slot, so it cannot be transferred or moved once bought, and it stays valid 24 hours, covering the first and second levels of the amphitheater, the Colosseum Museum, the Roman Forum and the Palatine. Inside the amphitheater itself the stay is capped at 75 minutes.

The hour of day the batch appears is not stated on the official pages we read, so no time is printed here. School group sales follow a different calendar entirely, monthly or weekly rather than 30 days.

The Borghese books everything, including the free tickets

Booking at the Galleria Borghese is compulsory for every category, including the free under-18 ticket, and costs 2.00 euro flat. Visits run in 2-hour slots with a cap per slot; the museum opens Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 am to 7:00 pm, last entry 5:45 pm, closed Mondays, December 25 and January 1.

Full entry is 16.00 euro, the shorter final slot 11.00 euro, reduced 2.00 euro for ages 18 to 25. The stated capacity of 180³ people per slot appears on the official page and is the most fragile figure on it, so read it as an order of magnitude.

The two opposite pricing rules

Palazzo Ducale in Venice charges 35 euro at the door and 30 euro online if you book at least 30 days ahead, a 5 euro discount on an unusual threshold that is easy to miss by a week. Booking there is not compulsory at all.

The Uffizi runs the opposite policy: 25 euro for the same day, 29 euro booked in advance, with 16 euro after 4:00 pm since January 2026. So "book early to save money" is false in Florence and true in Venice, and the only way to know which you are in is to read the specific price list.

The one you cannot fix

The Brunelleschi Dome slot is the only booking in this list that can be neither modified nor canceled. Miss the hour and no counter will help you. Last entry is 6:45 pm Monday to Friday and 4:30 pm on Saturday, while Sundays and public holidays run only from 12:45 pm to 4:30 pm, and the dome closes for maintenance from November 16 to 20, 2026.

Build the day around that slot rather than fitting it into a day. It is the only booking in this list where a 20-minute delay on a train converts directly into a lost ticket.
