Since February 2, 2026 reaching the basin area of the Trevi Fountain costs 2 euro for visitors and non-residents; after 10:00 pm the area is open again with no ticket.
The hours, and the 9:00 pm last entry
On Mondays and Fridays the ticketed access runs from 11:30 am to 10:00 pm; on every other day it runs from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm. Last entry is 9:00 pm in both cases.
After 10:00 pm the fountain stays visible and reachable for free. That is the single most useful line on this page for anyone staying central: the late evening costs nothing and the water is lit.
Who is exempt from the 2 euro
Four categories pay nothing: residents of Rome and the metropolitan city with an identity document, children under 6, people with a disability plus one companion, and licensed tour guides.
Everyone else pays, and the fee applies to the basin area rather than to the square as a whole.
Where to buy it, and the card-only detail
The 2 euro is sold on fontanaditrevi.roma.it, at the civic museums, at tourist information points and at authorized resale points. On site, payment is by card only.
That last detail catches people who have carefully kept 2 euro in coins for exactly this. Bring a card, or buy before you walk over.
The numbers that produced the decision
Rome recorded more than 10 million visitors at the fountain during the trial year, with average daily access of 30,0001 people and peaks of 70,0001. Those are the figures the city published alongside the measure.
A cap of 4001 people in the area at a time, managed by stewards since 2025, is reported by the press and does not appear on the official page, so treat it as a description of what you may see rather than as a published rule.
Roma Pass: 38.00 or 62.90 euro, and not this
The Roma Pass comes in two versions: 48 hours at 38.00 euro with one free museum or archaeological site, and 72 hours at 62.902 euro with two. Both include unlimited travel on the urban transport network for the life of the card, reduced entry elsewhere, and free use of the P.stop toilet network.
The official price list does not include the Trevi access among its benefits, so plan the 2 euro separately. The pass exists as an app for iOS and Android or as a physical card from the tourist infopoints.
