MUSE, Trento: Renzo Piano's science museum, 3-hour cap

MUSE, Trento's science museum, opens Tuesday to Friday 10 am to 6 pm and weekends 10 am to 7 pm, closes on Mondays except in August, and costs €11, with every visit capped at 3 hours.

€11, €9, or €22 for a family

The full ticket is €11 and the reduced €9. A family ticket costs €22 for two adults with their children under 18, or €11 for one adult with children, and there is a €4 rate listed for ages 0 to 5.

The family ticket is where the price list works: two adults and any number of children for the cost of two full tickets. The museum doesn't say which year the list applies to, so these are the current figures and nothing more precise.

A 3-hour cap on every visit

Visits to MUSE are capped at 3 hours.

That is the rule to plan around. With six levels to cover, decide before you go in which floors matter, and do those first.

For anyone who planned to spend a wet day inside, three hours isn't enough, and the Castello del Buonconsiglio is the other half of the day.

Closed Mondays, except in August

MUSE opens Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm, and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 10 am to 7 pm. It closes on Mondays and on December 25, and in August it opens every day.

August is the European holiday month, and the calendar follows it. Irish visitors put 18.7% of their Italian nights in August and Germans 16.9%. Americans are a different case: their peak month is July, not August, with 39.7% of their nights falling between June and August and 25.1% in the low season.

So an American family here in July meets the Monday closure, and one here in August doesn't. For the month itself, see July in Italy and August in Italy.

A 12,600-square-meter building by Renzo Piano

MUSE opened on July 27, 2013, in a Renzo Piano building in the Le Albere district, at Corso del Lavoro e della Scienza 3: 12,600 square meters on six levels, 3,700 of them permanent exhibition and 500 temporary.

The profile of the building is designed to echo the cut of the Trentino mountains. Visitors went from 343,984 in 2023 to more than 460,000 in 2024.

The museum's own site doesn't carry these figures on a page we could reach, so they come from an encyclopedic source that cites the MUSE accounts. The city is at Trento, and the rest of the day at things to do in Trento.
