Ravenna: eight UNESCO monuments, four on one ticket

Ravenna has eight early Christian monuments on the World Heritage List, built in the 5th and 6th centuries, and the €14.50 Ravenna Mosaici combined ticket covers four of them: San Vitale, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, Sant'Apollinare Nuovo and the Neonian Baptistery (2026).

Eight monuments in one comune

The eight listed monuments are the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, the Basilica of San Vitale, the Mausoleum of Theodoric, the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Classe, the Archiepiscopal Chapel of Sant'Andrea, the Arian Baptistery and the Neonian Baptistery. All eight were built between the 5th and the 6th century AD.

Italy's list of World Heritage sites by region gives 1996 as the year the group was inscribed.

What the combined ticket covers

The Ravenna Mosaici ticket costs €14.50 full, €11.50 reduced and €2 for children aged 6 to 10, with free entry up to 5 and for licensed guides (2026). It covers four monuments: San Vitale, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, Sant'Apollinare Nuovo and the Neonian Baptistery.

The ticket offices are at Sant'Apollinare Nuovo and at the Museo Arcivescovile. From March 8 to November 2, 2026 the four open from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm, and the winter hours after that date aren't in the data verified for this page.

In some seasons the Museo Arcivescovile, with the Chapel of Sant'Andrea, joins a five-monument version of the package. Check which one is on sale for your dates before you pay.

Book the two timed slots first

The Mausoleum of Galla Placidia and the Neonian Baptistery each need a booked time slot on top of the ticket. Those slots are the only fixed points in your day.

Book those two first, then fit San Vitale and Sant'Apollinare Nuovo around them. The other way round, you'll end up waiting for a slot with nothing to do.

The four the ticket leaves out

Four of the eight aren't on the combined ticket. Sant'Apollinare in Classe and the Mausoleum of Theodoric are managed by a different body and sell their own tickets, which aren't priced in our data, and the Arian Baptistery and the Archiepiscopal Chapel sit outside the four-monument package.

So seeing all eight means more than one ticket system. Plan it as two half days rather than one long one.

One of seven sites in the region

Emilia-Romagna has 7 World Heritage sites in 2026: Ferrara with the Po Delta, the Ravenna monuments, Modena's cathedral with the Torre Civica and Piazza Grande, the ancient beech forests, the porticoes of Bologna, the evaporite karst and caves of the northern Apennines, and the system of Italian condominium theatres of central Italy. Two of the seven are shared with other regions.

Ravenna was also one of five Italian Capitals of Culture for 2015, with Cagliari, Lecce, Perugia and Siena, the first year the title was awarded after its creation in 2014.

Getting there

Bologna Guglielmo Marconi airport, IATA code BLQ, handled 11,138,013 passengers in 2025, up 3.4% on 2024, seventh in Italy. The onward link from Bologna to Ravenna isn't in the data verified for this page, so use the Trenitalia planner for it.

The monuments in detail are at the Ravenna mosaics, the region's list at UNESCO in Emilia-Romagna, the region at Emilia-Romagna, the airport side at getting to Bologna, and the capital title at a different capital of culture every year.
