June in Italy: long evenings, one holiday

June has one national holiday, June 2, and the month's fixed date in Florence is June 24, the feast of San Giovanni, when the Calcio Storico final is played in Piazza Santa Croce.

June 2, June 24, June 29

June 2 is Italy's only national civil holiday in June, under law 260 of 1949. Rome adds its own on June 29, for Saints Peter and Paul.

June 24 is also the traditional date of the Calcio Storico final in Piazza Santa Croce. In 2026 the semifinals were played on June 13 and 14 and the final on June 24, after the Corteo Storico della Repubblica Fiorentina paraded through the city.

The semifinal dates move from year to year and the final does not. The history of the game and how to watch it are on the Calcio Storico page.

Agrigento switches to evening hours

From June 20 to September 20, 2026, the Valley of the Temples at Agrigento stayed open until 11:00 pm on weekdays, last entry 10:00 pm (22:00 at the gate), and until midnight on holidays, last entry 11:00 pm. The rest of the year it opens daily from 8:30 am to 8:00 pm, last entry 7:00 pm.

The park also publishes an 8:30 am to 11:00 pm version on another of its pages, and both sit on the official site. An evening visit, after the heat of the day, is the reason to come in summer rather than a thing you do despite it. The site itself is on the Valley of the Temples page.

The weather, Florence as the test

Florence averages 72.7°F (22.6°C) in June on 1991-2020 normals, with a mean daily high of 84.4°F (29.1°C) and a mean low of 60.8°F (16.0°C). It has the hottest summer highs of the cities in our set, and June is the month the climb begins.

Rain drops to 44.8 mm in June, from 63.0 mm in May, on the way to the driest month of the year, July, at 24.6 mm. A June thunderstorm is still inside the normal; a rainy week is not.

Opera season opens in Verona

The Arena di Verona Opera Festival fills the summer from June to early September, and the 2027 edition, the 104th, is scheduled from June 12 to September 11, 2027. The Fondazione Arena di Verona produces it.

The official page lists performances from June 12; press reports put the opening night on the 11th. Seating, from stone steps to the stalls, is on the Arena di Verona page.

What is not settled for June 2027

The 2027 Calcio Storico semifinal dates and the 2027 evening-hours window at Agrigento are not published in our sources yet. Treat the 2026 dates on this page as the pattern, not the plan, and check both again in spring.

What a national holiday changes, and what it doesn't, is on public holidays in Italy.
