Pisa Galileo Galilei (PSA) is Tuscany's main airport, with 5,977,2271 passengers in 2025 against 3,847,6582 at Florence Peretola (FLR), and one company, Toscana Aeroporti, runs both.
Pisa: the bigger of the two
Pisa San Giusto Galileo Galilei (IATA PSA, ICAO LIRP) handled 5,977,2271 passengers in 2025, 7.8% more than in 2024, and ranks 11th in Italy. It is the main airport of the region.
The operator is Toscana Aeroporti, which also runs Florence, so the two airports are one company's pair rather than rivals.
Florence: smaller, growing faster
Florence Peretola Amerigo Vespucci (IATA FLR, ICAO LIRQ) recorded 3,847,6582 passengers in 2025, up 9.4% on 2024, 17th nationally.
In percentage terms it grew faster than Pisa. In absolute terms Pisa still moved more than 2 million passengers more, and the full comparison of the two is on Pisa vs Florence airport.
From Pisa airport to the Tower without a car
The PisaMover takes you from the airport to Pisa Centrale station, and from there 3 bus lines reach Piazza dei Miracoli:
- Line 1+ from the Stazione 1 stop, direction Park Pietrasantina, every 10 minutes, to Torre 1
- Line 4 from Stazione 8, every 20 minutes, to Del Parlascio
- Night line 21 from Stazione 5, every 30 minutes, to Torre 1
The body that manages the Piazza publishes neither the PisaMover fare nor its journey time, and no other primary source in our set does, so both are missing here. Coaches from the Sesta Porta bus station also reach Torre 1, as detailed on getting to Pisa.
The 20 euro climb, with no discounts
The Leaning Tower climb costs 20 euro in 2026, and there is no reduced ticket for children, students or school groups. Prices in euros.
The single exception is a disabled visitor and one companion, who enter free but only on booking by email at least 5 days in advance, in limited slots. The rest of the rules, including the minimum age, are on the Tower of Pisa page.
Picking up a car at Peretola
Florence's entire historic center is a ZTL, split into sectors A, B, O, F and G, so a car rented at Peretola cannot drive freely into the city it serves. Sectors A, B and O are enforced all year on weekdays from 7:30 am to 8:00 pm and on Saturdays until 4:00 pm (07:30 to 16:00), 2026 hours.
On top of that, a summer night zone applies from the first Thursday of April to the first Sunday of October. The detail of every gate and sector is on the Florence ZTL page, and the train options into town on getting to Florence.
