Italy's airports: 230 million passengers

Italian airports handled 230,080,945¹ passengers in 2025 according to the operators' figures collected by Assaeroporti, 5.0% more than in 2024; ENAC, counting on a slightly different perimeter, publishes 229,740,554¹ for the same year.

Two official totals, 340,391 passengers apart

The distance between the two figures is 340,391 passengers, 0.15%¹ of the total, and it comes from the counting perimeter rather than from an error. The Assaeroporti file is the official export of progressive traffic to December 2025, and it includes general aviation and direct transit passengers.

Neither total is wrong. If a third number reaches you, ask which of these two it started from before you use it.

The 24 codes that appear on a ticket

Italy's 24 main airports open to commercial civil traffic carry the IATA codes below, taken from the ENAC list:

• Rome: FCO Fiumicino, CIA Ciampino
• Milan and Bergamo: MXP Malpensa, LIN Linate, BGY Orio al Serio
• Northeast: VCE Venice Tessera, TSF Treviso, VRN Verona Villafranca, TRS Trieste Ronchi dei Legionari
• Center and northwest: BLQ Bologna, FLR Florence Peretola, PSA Pisa, TRN Turin Caselle, GOA Genoa Sestri
• South: NAP Naples Capodichino, BRI Bari Palese, BDS Brindisi, SUF Lamezia Terme
• Islands: PMO Palermo Punta Raisi, CTA Catania Fontanarossa, TPS Trapani Birgi, CAG Cagliari Elmas, OLB Olbia, AHO Alghero Fertilia

Codes are stable over the years, which is why an older source still works for them. The ENAC edition we read is the 2021 traffic report: the 2025 one was not available in a readable format.

Where the traffic actually sits

Fiumicino leads with 51,306,744³ passengers in 2025, ahead of Malpensa at 31,385,585⁴ and Bergamo at 16,937,976⁵. Venice Marco Polo is sixth with 11,850,336⁶ and Linate eighth with 11,131,764⁷.

Malpensa grew 8.6% on 2024, the strongest move among the big five. Bergamo went the other way, down 2.4%.
