The city transfer we cannot price
No fare, frequency or journey time for the link between Capodichino and the city center is in our verified fact set, so this page prints none. Other sites quote a price; we have not been able to confirm one on the operator's own pages.
Buy from the operator at the stop or on its site, never from a stand inside arrivals. The city's other entry points, by high-speed train from Rome and Milan, are on getting to Naples.
One line for both Pompeii and Herculaneum
The EAV L1 Napoli to Sorrento line is the only Vesuvian line that stops at both Ercolano Scavi and Pompei Scavi-Villa dei Misteri. It leaves from Porta Nolana and from Garibaldi, on the timetable in force since March 28, 2026.
EAV also runs the L4 to Poggiomarino, the L6 to Sarno and the L8 from Volla to Baiano. If you want both excavations in a single day, the L1 is the train. The choice between the two sites is argued on Pompeii vs Herculaneum.
Tap in, tap out, 4.60 euro at most
On EAV rail lines, the Circumvesuviana included, a contactless bank card opens the gates with Tap&Go: you tap in and out with the same card, and the system charges the cheapest fare for your trips in the following days. On the Napoli to Sorrento line the charge is capped at 4.60 euro (2026).
The same card works on the Cumana, the Circumflegrea, the Aversa to Piscinola line, metro Line 1 and the Centrale and Chiaia funiculars. The rule is tap in and tap out with the same card, so the second tap is part of the ticket, not a courtesy.
Driving from the airport: the old town is a ZTL
The Centro Antico of Naples is a limited traffic zone with 4 electronic gates. Via del Sole is active Monday to Thursday from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm (09:00 to 22:00) and from Friday to Sunday and on holidays until 2:00 am; via Miroballo, via Duomo and via Santa Sofia are active every day from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (2026).
Access is reserved for residents, businesses inside the zone, deliveries, visiting doctors, authorized public service vehicles and patients heading to clinics inside it. Temporary permits are requested by email to the city at permessitemporanei.ztl@comune.napoli.it. Details and the other Naples zones are on the Naples ZTL page.
