The fastest direct high-speed train from Firenze Santa Maria Novella to Venezia Santa Lucia takes 2 hours 14 minutes, on the timetable in force in September 2026.
2h14 is the only verified number
Only the fastest direct time, 2 hours 14 minutes, is verified for this pair, read from the Trenitalia system on September 8, 2026. The median, the slowest direct train and the number of daily departures are not in our fact set, and neither are Italo's times.
So this page does not guess them. The figure holds for the timetable in force until mid-December 2026, when the Italian rail schedule changes; after that, check again. Florence's other rail links are on getting to Florence.
Flying home from Venice: the pass stops at the airport
The Aerobus to Marco Polo airport costs 10 euro one way, because no ordinary ACTV ticket or pass covers that trip (2026). The return is 18 euro on lines 5, 15 and 45, and 18 euro also buys the one-way Aerobus with 90 minutes on the rest of the network.
If you arrive from Florence and buy a 1, 2, 3 or 7-day pass, the airport supplement is 7 euro single or 13 euro return. It has to be bought at the same moment as the pass, which makes the day you step off the train the day to decide how you will leave. More on the Venice airport page.
By boat to the airport: Alilaguna
Alilaguna motorboats link Marco Polo and Venice for 18.00 euro one way and 32.00 euro return, with one large bag and one carry-on included and 4.00 euro for each extra bag (2026). Children under 6 ride free, and the airport to Murano costs 10.00 euro.
Three lines leave the airport:
- Blu: Murano, Fondamente Nove, Ospedale, Lido, Arsenale, San Zaccaria, San Marco Giardinetti, Zattere, Giudecca Stucky, Tronchetto, Ferrovia Santa Lucia
- Arancio: Madonna dell'Orto, Guglie, San Stae, Rialto, Sant'Angelo, Ca' Rezzonico, Santa Maria del Giglio
- Rossa, summer only: Murano, Fondamente Nove, Ospedale, Lido, San Zaccaria, San Marco Giardinetti
Only the Arancio enters the Grand Canal; the Blu goes round the outside. Journey times and frequencies are published only as PDF timetables, not on the lines' web pages, so none appears here.
Bus or boat: the arithmetic
For one traveler, the Aerobus at 10 euro costs 8 euro less than Alilaguna at 18.00. The boat's case is that it stops inside the city, at places such as San Zaccaria and Rialto, with a large bag already included in the fare.
Two travelers with two big bags each pay 36.00 euro plus 8.00 euro of extra luggage on Alilaguna, one way, against 20 euro on the Aerobus. Prices in euros, 2026.
Other ways into Venice
Two other pages cover the rest of the Venice arrival: Rome to Venice by train, with the vaporetto fares at the station, and getting to Venice, with the city's transport.
